Aquagy, Inc. Aquagy, Inc. is an environmental solutions company using commercially-proven processes for treating wastewater while simultaneously recovering bioenergy, nutrients, and water for reuse. Our innovative and unique technology has a forty-year operational history and has been placed at municipal and industrial facilities to meet U.S. EPA discharge standards at less than half the investment and one-third the operational costs of conventional wastewater treatment technologies. Aquagy offers design sevices and turnkey solutions employing a technology that has been scientifically proven and thoroughly documented during decades of rigorous testing, study, and improvement at UC Berkeley and at dozens of field sites under the names "Oswald Ponds", "Advanced Integrated Ponding Systems" (AIPS) and "Advanced Integrated Wastewater Pond Systems" (AIWPS®). The Sustainable Difference Conventional wastewater treatment is capital- and energy-intensive, with high construction, maintenance, and operation budgets, large labor requirements, high carbon emissions, and daily production of sludge. Sewage sludge is infectious and is often disposed of in a landfill, where its further decomposition results in the emission of methane, a potent greenhouse gas. In contrast to conventional methods, the Aquagy's sustainable wastewater treatment technology is carbon-negative and recovers energy through anaerobic digestion in economically constructed ponds. Carbon is also fixed in the form of microalgae, which are used in the subsequent, aerobic stage of our process. Because all the organic solids in the wastewater are anaerobically digested and converted to biogas, there is no sludge accumulation and thus no sludge handling or disposal necessary. This truly sludge-free process is virtually unique in the wastewater treatment industry. Also unique is our intensive use of microalgae to photosynthetically oxygenate the water and remove nutrients. Whereas most aquatic plants release their oxygen to the atmosphere, algae release oxygen directly into the water through solar-powered photosynthesis. The Aquagy method for sustainable wastewater treatment is a biomimetic technology that uses a series of ponds engineered to mimic the same environments and the same biological and chemical processes that nature itself uses to treat water contaminated with organic wastes and nutrients. We are proud to present the Aquagy solution as the most sustainable wastewater treatment, energy and nutrient recovery, and water reclamation technology available. The advantages and economy we offer over conventional technologies will allow us to play a key role in improving and extending sanitation throughout the world at significant savings. | The Unsustainable Way: Conventional wastewater treatment is costly, energy-intensive, releases greenhouse gases, produces infectious sludge for disposal in landfills, and is effected in tanks that last only about 20 years:
